Houston! I feel normal here. Maybe it is because I am imperfect like this city. And what better place for a space geek to be than Space City?! When I moved here four years ago, after having moved around most of my life, I found my home. I proactively immersed myself in the community, got a library card, volunteered (for the Women's Home, Superbowl LI, the Houston Rodeo, Chevron Marathon and Petco, to name a handful), signed up to be a Big Sister, became a member of the Museum of Fine Arts and season subscriber of the Houston Ballet and Society of Performing Arts, joined the YMCA, went on architecture tours, researched and explored hidden gems and attended lots and lots of pop up dinner events and escape rooms alone. In so doing, my tribe emerged. There is a very exciting energy in Houston right now, and so much creative and entrepreneurial potential. It may have taken me 40 years to get here, but my journey enabled me to appreciate all that my community offers.
