About Penny
Bio
Penny Wirsing is currently the President of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), a non-profit focused on empowering women to achieve their full potential in engineering and technical careers. She was also honored as a Fellow of SWE in 2007. As her ‘day job’, she is an environmental manager for Torrance Refining Company near Los Angeles where she is responsible for ensuring the refinery’s compliance with local, state and federal regulations. She has been in the oil and gas industry for over 25 years, in a number of locations and positions related to engineering and the environment. Penny earned her BS in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University, and her MBA from the University of Washington.
Throughout her career, Penny has mentored young women within her company, in the local community, and at colleges and universities. Penny is also active in her community, serving on the Board of Directors for Pediatric Therapy Network, a non-profit organization providing services to children with special needs.
