Avery Winthrop McCall

Avery McCall is a 20-year old human rights activist, model, radio show co-host/podcaster, and student. After reading and being inspired by the book Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, she decided to devote herself to making a difference for people in crisis, particularly women and girls, across the globe. She has since served as a Teen Advisor to the United Nations Foundation Girl Up Campaign, worked with an organization combatting sex trafficking in Southeast Asia, and tutored, mentored, and lived with resettled refugees. In 2014, she joined the steering committee for the Women and Global Development Forum at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs. She has spoken to numerous audiences of philanthropists, business leaders, authors, and humanitarians on subjects spanning from “Genocide and Humanitarian Intervention” to “Technology and the Empowerment of Isolated Demographics”. Additionally, Avery is signed with Ford Models. Modeling provides a wide-reaching, albeit unconventional, platform to integrate her human rights interests and goal of inspiring teens and millennials to be voices for change. Her work has been featured in publications ranging from Teen Vogue, to the New York Times, to Vogue.com, and she has walked the runways of designers from Alexander McQueen to Roberto Cavalli. In 2016, she was selected to be one of Teen Vogue's 21 Under 21. Avery took a gap year before college, during which she interned with the Fashion Partnerships team at Instagram, continued her work merging modeling and human rights, and travelled globally. She co-hosted “Women INVESTING in Women & Girls” and “Be the Change,” two podcasts produced by The State of Women Radio Network, interviewing Malala and travelling to the World Economic Forum with the platform. She is currently a freshman at Stanford University, where she is involved with Stanford Women in Business, the Stanford Storytelling Project, and the Handa Center for Human Rights.
