Karl Dagher is driven by one simple instinct: curiosity in motion. At 17 and in the second year of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, he spends much of his time exploring how ideas, systems, and people work—from the logic behind engineering problems to the dynamics of global diplomacy. Engineering fascinates him because it transforms imagination into reality. For Karl, engineering is not just equations or machines; it is the art of solving problems that shape the future. This passion has drawn him toward computer science and engineering, with the goal of studying Computer Science and Engineering at the Delft University of Technology, where innovation and technology intersect with real-world impact. Outside the classroom, Karl is equally energized by experiences that challenge both the mind and the body. Mixed martial arts pushes him to develop discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking. Scuba diving offers a completely different perspective—exploring an environment where silence replaces noise and curiosity replaces routine. Underwater, every movement demands focus, patience, and respect for the unknown. Karl also thrives in spaces where ideas are debated and shared. Through Model United Nations, he engages with complex global issues, learning how diplomacy, economics, and politics intertwine. These experiences sharpen his ability to think critically, defend arguments, and understand perspectives beyond his own. Another passion lies in the power of ideas themselves. Inspired by the mission of TED, Karl believes that a single idea—clearly expressed—can change the way people see the world. Whether through speaking, research, or conversation, he enjoys transforming complex questions into ideas that spark curiosity in others. For Karl, these passions—engineering, exploration, debate, and storytelling—are not separate interests. They all stem from the same motivation: the desire to understand systems, challenge limits, and continuously discover new perspectives. Because for him, learning is not something confined to a classroom. It is something lived—in the lab, underwater, in debate halls, and on the stage where ideas begin to move people.
