I am a passionate Bharatanatyam dancer. Bharatanatyam is an Indian traditional dance form that dates back thousands of years. This passion of mine started around the age of three when I happened to watch a live Bharatanatyam dance recital. The experience sparked a fire within me, and so I started training in the art form. Through the years, what started as a childhood fancy slowly turned into something much greater than that. I won’t say it was all sunshine and rainbows because the journey to become a professional dancer was certainly arduous and required me to put in my all, while simultaneously managing school. After 10 years of training, my hard work paid off as I was finally ready to perform my Arangetram - the formal graduation from a student to a professional performer. The reason I love Bharatanatyam is because it allows me to portray different characters and different emotions, and really lets me put myself in another person’s shoes. It has allowed me to be able to connect with an audience in the most raw form - emotionally. It has always let me be free, and regardless of any problems I might have in my personal life, I can forget all about it while I am dancing. I also really enjoy the fact that I can portray an entire story to people without words just using my body and face, and leave them feeling entertained and so connected afterward.

In India and specifically in Kerala, wildlife became a topic of interest in the 90’s. Accordingly wildlife reserves were created and many of the animals were protected from hunting and were also allowed to grow. But today the situation is, many of the animal population have increased beyond what the forest can hold. For example an adult male tiger has a territory of 100 sq. kms in India and few of the tiger reserves have a higher tiger ratio. The animals that are generally weak come in contact with the population living nearby and then man-animal conflict happens. To quote the statistics, 1266 people have died in the last 10 years due to animal attacks in the State of Kerala. This talk is to enlighten them to the concept of wildlife management wherein which we try to tell the people that it’s not only conserving but also management is a must.
