Temsutula Imsong
President Sakaar Sewa Samiti
I grew up in Ungma village, Mokokchung, Nagaland, as the second youngest of seven siblings. My father, a retired teacher, and my mother, a homemaker, instilled in us a way of life rooted in sustainability, where sanitation and resource conservation were natural practices. I completed my schooling in Mokokchung and graduated from St. Mary’s College, Shillong, before moving to Delhi for higher studies and work. There, I joined Sakaar Sewa Samiti, and soon left my job to dedicate myself fully to social service. My journey took me to Nagaland, where we formed self-help groups, and later to Varanasi and Ghazipur. Since 2013, I have been working in Varanasi to promote cleanliness through ghat cleaning drives and behavioral change initiatives. We actively encourage individual composting as a grassroots solution. We also honor Swachhagrahis on the 8th of every month, inspired by the Prime Minister’s recognition of their invaluable service.
