  • Danielle Mynes

I am a secondary school teacher, feminist activist, mother, and poet. I write about female experience, the violence and barriers women and girls face daily and in the past, my connection to the sea, my Irish heritage, and the power of allyship in creating unity. As a teacher, I work with young women and girls every day. I develop student leadership activist platforms, facilitating opportunities for my students to drive and lead social change across their communities. We work to create awareness and activism on ending violence against women and girls. I help schools to identify, prevent and work to eradicate gender based violence. I advocate a Whole-School-Approach to ending sexism, misogyny, gender stereotypes, and violence against women and girls in schools. When we act together and when we shape social change with young people collectively, I believe we can create a much safer society for everyone.

  • Erica Goncalves

    Student

I’m a first-year university student, and this whole talk started because I got curious about one word on a supermarket label “organic” and couldn’t stop pulling the thread. I studied biology and chemistry at A-level, and over the last six months I’ve spent more hours than I’d like to admit reading peer-reviewed research on what’s in our food and water. I’m not a toxicologist, and I’m the first to say so. What I bring instead is the ordinary person’s question the experts stopped asking: we test chemicals one at a time, but nobody lives one chemical at a time, so what happens when they meet inside us? My degree is in entrepreneurship the kind where you learn by building real projects instead of sitting exams so turning a rough idea into something people can use is second nature and it’s the same instinct behind this talk. When I’m not buried in research papers, I’m building those ventures, training at the gym, and getting my friends to question the things they'd stopped questioning.
