Paul A. Kramer is a historian and writer at Vanderbilt University whose work focuses on the United States' changing relationships with the wider world. He received his PhD from Princeton University and is the recipient of fellowships from Harvard University, Fulbright, the Smithsonian Institution and the National Endowment of the Humanities. In addition to his academic work, he has written for the New Yorker, Slate and other publications on themes ranging from the shifting character of the US-Mexico border and the origins of the US military base at Guantanamo Bay to the connection between the Iraq War and Hurricane Katrina.
