Patrick Chappatte

Born in Pakistan to a Lebanese mother and a Swiss father and raised in Singapore, Patrick Chappatte has lived in New York, Los Angeles and Geneva, Switzerland -- a cosmopolitan life that explains his way of looking at world events.

Chappatte is an editorial cartoonist contributing to The Boston Globe in the US, Le Canard Enchaîné and La Tribune Dimanche in France, and Swiss newspapers LeTemps and NZZ am Sonntag. He was formerly with The New York Times and Der Spiegel magazine. Chappatte is also a pioneer of comics reportage, whose stories include the war in Gaza, the slums of Nairobi, gang violence in Central America and the dark side of Silicon Valley. In 2016, with the help of journalist Anne-Frédérique Widmann, he created "Inside Death Row," a five-part series for The New York Times — its first foray into graphic journalism. He chairs the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation in Geneva.
