Why you should listen

Jodi-Ann Burey (she/her) is a writer and critic on race, culture and health equity. She is the author of Authentic: The Myth of Bringing Your Full Self to Work. Her essays appear in various arts, business and literary publications.

Beyond the written word, Burey stands out as a catalytic orator, having conducted more than 100 keynotes interviews and keynotes — including her TEDx Talk. Her writing has been supported by Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation (VONA), The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts & Sciences, The Virginia Center for Creative Arts (VCCA) and the Vermont Studio Center.

In 2018, Burey's public health and social justice worlds collided with a spinal tumor diagnosis. Along that recovery journey, she built what she needed: a space to not feel alone. She created Black Cancer, a narrative podcast about identity, trauma and health inequities. She also created and hosts a prose and poetry reading series, Lit Lounge: The People’s Art, and The People’s Art Podcast.
