University of Sussex professor Anil Seth explores the nature of consciousness, working at the intersection of neuroscience, philosophy and AI. He pioneered research into the brain basis of consciousness, clarifying how biology and physics determine our inner universe. As codirector of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research Program on Brain, Mind and Consciousness, he is currently investigating one of the key questions of our time: Could AI be, or become, conscious? His bestselling book, Being You: A New Science of Consciousness, was The Economist’s pick for book of the year in 2021.
