Bio
Original from Mallorca, born and raised in Inca since 1991. Eager to learn, teach and live different experiences. I obtained my degree last year (2016) in English Studies at Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB). I have recently been accepted to a Master's degree in Literary and Audiovisual Translation at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), which I will start next September and I want to combine with work related to my interests.
I have worked as a receptionist for three years in Apartmentos Maricel (2014-2016) and this season I am working as a receptionist for Hotel Miramar, both in Puerto Pollensa.
I love sport in general, specially football which I have practiced since 1997 and at amateur level since 2010. My other hobby is music, which I practice through my guitar mostly in private.
I would say I am introverted by choice, for I love spending time with people but I do not open myself too easily.
My ambition and will to challenge myself almost constantly has led me to try many fields, such as teaching, ATC, science...however, at the stage of 26 years I consider myself mature enough to focus my energy on translation. Language is as basic, simple, complex, interesting and challenging as one wants, therefore I have been seduced by its magic.
This is me, Antoni Rafel Rotger Prats. I hope we meet some day ;)
I'm passionate about
I am passionate about audiovisual material. I love watching films, tv series, documentaries...I like learning every day and, more specifically, I like to focus on language. Translation is my cup of tea. I enjoy the task of transferring meaning and intention from one situation into another or from one language into another.
I particularly enjoy humor translation. My final year project for my degree dealt with the transference of humor from English to Spanish in Woody Allen's "Love and Death". Thanks to that project I gained knowledge of the history and the procedures of both translation and audiovisual translation and also of the main mechanisms used for humor transference. I really like to watch tv series such as "Friends", "How I met your mother", "Scrubs", "The big bang theory"...and I can't help paying special attention to language and the way it's rendered in another language. I have passed a course on Professional subtitling and on Translating scripts for dubbing and as a way to keep growing and gaining experience I would really appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this community with my work as a subtitler.
An idea worth spreading
To me, an idea worth spreading is that we are all one. By that I mean that we spend too much time focusing on what makes us different rather than on what makes us alike. If we believe that we are all part of the same planet, which by the way we should take care of, we will treat others with the love and respect we treat our family and friends. This idea can be found in this platform. Thousands of conferences offer a view from a specific field that can help putting an end to wars, poverty and suffering.

The TED story
I have known TED since 2008. I was studying to become a primary school teacher and one of our lecturers showed us videos of Ken Robinson. From that point onwards I have enjoyed watching many videos of different speakers be it for academic reasons, curiosity and entertainment.
I have recently created an account because I became aware of the possibility to volunteer for the subtitling of the platform.
Things you might not know
People don't know I'm good at listening. I'm more of a listener than a speaker and I would rather express myself writing than speaking. This ability makes me a good learner, a good reader and writer.
