Bio
Hi! My name is Astrid. I have a Bachelor's degree Translator/Interpreter and have been a technical writer and translator at Burke E Porter Machinery in Bruges since 2014. Hit Google, you'll find it. Yep, it's a man's world I work in. I work the following language pairs: Dutch-English, English-German, German-English, Dutch-French, English-French, French-English, and German-French. Ooh, I also speak some Portuguese. I took a course for two years. I really want to translate into Dutch (my mother tongue) and that's what I miss at my current job.
I'm passionate about
Baking, for one. I just love perfect bakes. I hate imperfect ones. Of course translating has to be on the list as well. The one thing I kind of miss at work is translating into my own mother tongue (Dutch). My favourite language pair to work in is English-Dutch. I love to read as well and a "bad" translation can really get on my nerves.
The TED story
Don't have a story yet. It takes some time to write history, right? I really hope that in volunteering for TED I get the chance to translate English-Dutch!
Things you might not know
Typing, I guess... I won the European Championship Typewriting a few years ago. My personal record is over 600 flawless keystrokes per minute.
