Bio
I am a freelance computer whisperer (bioinformatician), working for a few different clients in New Zealand and around the world. I am an advocate for Free and Open Source Software, with the majority of my work done using a Linux system.
My days are spent teaching computers how to understand scientists, with the goal of making scientific research faster, cheaper, and better.
I'm passionate about
Helping others to discover more about their world through research
An idea worth spreading
Affordable, usable, and accessible DNA sequencing technology is just around the corner
Areas of expertise
bioinformatics, debugging, DNA sequencing, free software, genetics, programming
The TED story
I was a TEDxWellington speaker in 2016, and carried out what was probably the first live DNA sequencing demonstration from run start to results. I want to tell the world how useful sequencing can be, and learn from others how we might use it in the future.
