Bio

Hi! My name is Melisa. I am 18 years old, and I am currently a second-year student of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Manisa Celal Bayar University. I have always had a deep interest in learning new languages and believe that the most important thing in this world is connecting with people who are from different cultures.

I'm passionate about

I am deeply passionate about linguistics and cross-cultural communication, which captures unique human experiences. But beyond my studies, I love traveling to new cities and visiting ancient sites, reading global literature, watching TED Talks, and documentaries about climate change and its effects on animals.

An idea worth spreading

An idea worth spreading is "To be understood without being downgraded or criticized unfairly". Uniqueness of this world and its people is what makes everyone have their own opinion. As we all come from different backgrounds with different stories, it is pretty normal to have different perspectives on the situations. In an increasingly divided world like this, understanding these nuances is the most powerful tool and it literally is what creates and adds to the global empathy. Ideas shouldn't be trapped within the borders of their hosts.

The TED story

I can actually say that ı grew up watching TED Talks. Watching people from different backgrounds share their ideas with excellent communication skills not only made my skills get better, but also helped me improve my English. My dream is to jump over the bricks created by language barriers so that people can share their ideas. In my opinion, translating TED Talks will help me make my dream come true.

Things you might not know

Unofficially, people do not know that I am pretty good at memorizing random trivia facts and recalling them at the most unexpected time, for example, in the middle of a conversation about that topic. Officially, I am pretty good at adapting to new and unfamiliar cultures.
