Bio

My name is Pham Dao Ngoc Ngan, and I am currently majoring in English Studies at Can Tho University. I have been studying English for nearly 18 years. In the past, I participated in the English Proficiency Contest for Excellent Students. At present, I am preparing to register for the VSTEP Level C1 examination. In addition to my studies, I actively engage in teaching English and participate in the English Club to enhance my language skills. I also take part in various activities organized by the Youth Union and Student Association, including volunteering and cultural events. Moreover, I have conducted scientific research in the field of translation, focusing on the influence of the mother tongue on learners’ translation styles, which has given me a deep understanding of translation theory and practice. Currently, I am involved in TED translation projects, which provide me with an opportunity to contribute my knowledge and further develop my skills in the field of translation.

I'm passionate about

At the present, I love to become a translator, an English teacher and an English language editor. Besides, I adore singing and acting, specifically play as a sad ,malicious or even active character.

An idea worth spreading

Personally, I believe that young people, especially students, should increase their learning motivation during their first year of study, as it helps them gain a deeper understanding of their major compared to others. I hope this idea can be considered as a topic for discussion on TED.

The TED story

My name is Ngan, and I am currently studying English Studies. I want to become a member of TED because I believe sharing personal experiences can inspire and help others. When I started my first year at university, I thought it would be the easiest year, so I focused mainly on developing life skills and did not pay enough attention to my studies. However, when I entered my second year and began to study my major more seriously, I realized that I had fallen behind and it was difficult to catch up. From this experience, I learned the importance of balancing both personal development and academic commitment from the very beginning. I want to share my story to encourage other students, especially freshmen, to stay motivated and work hard in their studies right from the start. By doing this, they can build a strong foundation for their future success. I believe that this message fits well with TED’s mission of spreading ideas that matter, and I hope to contribute by sharing meaningful stories like mine. Joining TED will give me the opportunity to connect with others who are passionate about learning and growth.
