Bio

I am an English teacher, audiovisual translator, and researcher from Bahia, Brazil. I hold a degree in English Language and Literature and currently conduct research in Audiovisual Translation as a PhD student and Master in Translation Studies, with a particular focus on dubbing, subtitling, humor translation, and indirect translation. My academic work explores how linguistic and cultural elements are adapted across languages and media, especially in films, television series, and fan-produced content. Over the years, I have worked with professional, volunteer, and fan translation projects, gaining experience in subtitling and dubbing translation. I am especially interested in the intersections between language, culture, technology, and education, as well as the ways translation can foster accessibility, intercultural dialogue, and global understanding. As an educator, I seek to integrate digital technologies, multimodal resources, and popular media into language teaching in order to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences. I believe that languages, translation, and education have the power to connect people, challenge perspectives, and transform lives.

I'm passionate about

I am passionate about audiovisual translation, language education, intercultural communication, and digital innovation. I enjoy exploring how films, television series, music, and online media can be used to teach languages and promote critical thinking. I am particularly interested in dubbing and subtitling, humor translation, corpus linguistics, and the role of artificial intelligence in translation and education. I am also fascinated by how technology can expand access to knowledge and create new opportunities for collaboration across borders. Beyond academia, I love discovering new cultures through audiovisual media, learning about languages, and engaging with global communities that share a passion for communication and storytelling.

An idea worth spreading

Translation is much more than transferring words from one language to another. It is an act of cultural mediation that allows stories, emotions, humor, and knowledge to travel across borders. In an increasingly interconnected world, audiovisual translation, through dubbing, subtitling, and emerging technologies, plays a crucial role in making content accessible to diverse audiences. Every translated film, series, or digital product carries decisions that shape how cultures are perceived and understood. By valuing translation as a bridge between languages, cultures, and communities, we can promote greater inclusion, empathy, and global dialogue. Stories have the power to change people, but only when they can be understood.

The TED story

My journey with TED began through my curiosity about ideas that connect people across cultures and disciplines. As a researcher and educator from the interior of Bahia, Brazil, I have always believed that knowledge should transcend geographical boundaries. TED talks have inspired me to think critically about education, technology, language, and social change. They have also reinforced my belief that impactful ideas can emerge from any place in the world, regardless of one's background. As someone dedicated to translation and education, I see TED as a powerful platform for fostering intercultural dialogue and making knowledge accessible to wider audiences. Being part of the TED community represents an opportunity not only to learn from others, but also to contribute my own experiences and perspectives on language, translation, and education.

Things you might not know

Many people do not know that I am skilled at adapting dialogue for dubbing and subtitling, balancing linguistic accuracy with creativity and cultural sensitivity. Translating humor, idiomatic expressions, and culturally specific references is one of my favorite challenges. I am also good at transforming films, series, music, and digital media into engaging educational resources for language learning. I enjoy working with digital tools and exploring innovative ways of integrating technology and artificial intelligence into both translation and education. I have developed resilience and adaptability through my experiences in academic research, teaching, and audiovisual translation, skills that continually help me navigate new challenges and opportunities.
