Bio

Hi, my name is Siti Maesaroh, but you can call me Mae. I’m a translator in the TED Translation Program. I’m still a novice and have a lot to learn. Nice to meet you!

I'm passionate about

I like learning new languages, even though I’m not very good at them. I also enjoy reading about history, any kind of history.

An idea worth spreading

For me, the idea that learning is only for the young, that it is too late to learn something new, or that you are simply not suited for a particular field, project, or hobby is simply wrong. There are no age limits to learning. You can learn anything, anywhere, at any stage of life. Everyone deserves access to knowledge, and there is no point at which we should stop learning, no matter how old we are. We also need to stop listening to people who discourage us from trying something new. What they call “criticism” may sometimes come from their own jealousy, insecurity, or limitations rather than genuine concern for us. We should not let those voices stop us from learning, growing, and pursuing the things we care about.

Areas of expertise

The TED story

I discovered TED through YouTube videos that I happened to stumble upon. I was fascinated by the idea that I could learn new ideas and experiences from people around the world, regardless of their language, age, or expertise. The idea of bringing these new insights and amazing ideas to people in my own language was so appealing that I decided to join the TED Translation Program. I’m still learning and working to become a better translator so I can help make inspiring TED Talks accessible to more people.

Things you might not know

I am still figuring that out. I’m not sure what I’m particularly good at yet, but I know that I enjoy learning, exploring new things, and improving myself.
