Bio

My name is Paloma, I’m a Spanish Native speaker and advanced English speaker, intermediate Portuguese speaker and basic French and Peruvian Sign Language speaker. I've worked as an English teacher for a year with experience teaching executives, kids and the general public. In addition, I worked for 6 years as an over the phone interpreter for spanish and english on medical and customer services fields, for clients like Language Line Solutions and Pacific Interpreters. I've done some translations as a freelance for around 2 years. I have translated academic papers, medical documents and legal statutes. I've also collaborated with TED as a translation, transcription and subtitling volunteer. I’m a MateCAT and Captionhub user, I can handle package and project files, as well as deliver in whatever format necessary. I am an organized, problem solving and reliable worker, who is always ready to learn new tools and abilities to improve as a professional. Currently searching for a position that requires me to use my abilities for the benefit of the company.

I'm passionate about

Languages, they connect people with different backgrounds, culture and beliefes, and getting to be the bridge that can connect to people that don't speak the same language it's amazing.

An idea worth spreading

I've learn that working hard for a goal makes it more satisfactory to achieve it, it also leaves you with new knowledge and personal growth.

The TED story

I join TED to become a volunteer and help others with my communication skills. Working as an interpreter opened my eyes to what it means to be understood and heard, there's people out there not being able to comunicate and if I'm able to assist them, I will.

Things you might not know

At singing, I had stage fright for the first 7 or 8 years of my life and I overcame it but only to dance, not to sing. On my teenage years I had a few bullies who made me believe I was a bad singer. I finally found my voice, realize I could sing and people actually like it. Nowadays the bullies are still around but I know who I am and just don’t listen to them anymore, sometimes I even sing louder.
