About Atakan

Bio

Hello, My name is Atakan Kara and I am 15. I live in Antalya, Turkey where I have the chance to practise and improve my English since it is full of tourists all year long. I hope this web-site will help me in this issue too. I am a High School student and I will be done with it in 2 years. I hope to study Visual Communication Design in college. I have been learning English for 7 years and I think I am an advenced speaker. I took KET (Key English Test) 6 years ago and I took PET (Preliminary English Test) a year later, both organized by the University of Cambridge ESOL, and passed both of them with merit. I participated in an English debate about using animals in experiments, 3 years ago and I attended an EYP (European Youth Parliament) Conference as a delegate for committee Defense and Security last year. I will be taking part in an another EYP conference as a journalist this year and next year I will attend IELTS (International English Language Testing System) prepared by British Council. I spend most of my time listening to music. My favourite band is Fever Ray. I like taking photographs and I aim to do this professionally, or as a job. One of my hobbies is reading books. Eventhough (as everyone would) I prefer reading books in my native language, I like reading books in English too, if the original of the book was written in English. My favourite authors are Chuck Palahniuk and Elif Shafak, I recommend both of them strongly. Watching movies is an another hobby I have, I love movies about different cultures, people and human portraits. My favourite director is Bernardo Bertolucci, though my favourite movie is Requiem for a Dream by Darren Aronofsy. I used to translate song lyrics for myself or for friends, but why would I get stuck there when I can translate speeches about culture, movies, politics or economics. I hope to recieve some help and encouraging comments from the site-members. Thanks for reading.

An idea worth spreading

The fact that world be such a better place without country borders and nationalists.

The TED story

I know this is irrelevant but the school I'm attending's name is TED also, which means Turkish Education Association. What a coincidence.
