Bio
Born in England, I've been living in Paris since 1978, teaching English to working adults - for profit-making organisations in the private sector and not in state schools. I've also done a little translation.Otherwise I'm nobody in particular. Haven't even got a photo of myself.
I'm passionate about
Learning, teaching, thinking. Finding out about people who create their life rather than just going along with it. Persuading people that a foreign language will take their weight.
An idea worth spreading
Fear is behind every problem on this planet.
The TED story
Saw an article in a magazine ( Le Monde 2 - now re-named Le Monde Magazine ) and noted web address, but didn't get round to visiting until one of my students asked me to help him understand Hans Rosling, and there's been no stopping me since. I use TED as a teaching aid all the time. One of my students makes TV programmes and she was extremely interested in making one about William Kamkwamba, until she saw that it had already been done, but I'm going to try to get her interested in Kartick Satyanarayan. A friend is trying to get his boss to look into Gapminder software. And so on ...
Things you might not know
Getting houseplants to flower. Organising arguments and decriptions clearly. I can write poems if I really do absolutely nothing else.
