The TED story
TED was a coincidence. About 3 years ago, a talk by Karen Armstrong discussing "Compassion" and its possible role in resolving agonizing global problems caught my eyes. "Compassion" never occurred to me with any significance. It was a blank word that meant almost nothing--I hadn't seen anyone use that word in the right sense. But after the talk was over, I was soon gripped by its powerful kick in the stomach. I was shocked and surprised. I came to believe that I ,too, can make a difference in this world where so many are struggling to meet their ends and achieve their fullest potentials. In that sense, I feel grateful, as a TED Translator, to be given the chance to contribute to TED.
TED, to me, is a newspaper from the future. It gives me wisdom, a whole new spectrum of different perspectives and unprecedented experiences, a motivation for self-improvement and a deeper understanding of our world.
One day, I hope to be a TED speaker and be the inspiration that it has been to me.
