Hi TED community! A little about me... I'm Jesse Thompson. Born and raised in Texas. Graduated from Plano ISD (Go PESH Panthers!), The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (Go Gophers!), and The University of Texas at Arlington (Go Mavs!), with a HS Diploma, B.S. in Inter-College Program: Health and Wellness with Nutrition Core and a minor in Spanish Studies, and a B.A. in Spanish Translation and Interpreting with a minor in Localization and Translation, respectively. Interests: Language education, medical, legal and audio-visual translation, collaboration to make everyone better. Favorite T.V. shows: "Jeopardy!", "Air Disasters", "Monk", "Castle", "Bones", "Boston Legal", "The Practice", "How it Really Happened", "Dateline Investigates" Favorite Pasttimes: walking, riding my bicycle, reading the news (especially local news and the comics section) Favorite Books: Proverbs, Psalms, Luke, Phillipians, Dune books, Ender books, Star Wars books, Peace Like a River, In the Garden of the Beasts, Just Mercy, Bury the Chains: Prophets and Rebels in the Fight to Free an Empire's Slaves, Catch 22. Goals for my involvement with TED: 1) Help and build good relationships with other volunteers and TED staff. 2) Master audio-visual translation through completing enough subtitle sets to (a) qualify as a reviewer, then (b) qualify as a language supervisor, in both Spanish and English, and (c) become experienced and skilled enough to be able to review subtitles for transcriptions in both Spanish and English, and, eventually, translations into either language. 3) Help to streamline the review, feedback, approval, and amend processes for my working languages (English and Spanish) by helping to create social media groups and resource summaries for the English Language Community of TED Translators, as well as by helping to create a model for multilingual integrated workflows through strategic linkages and partnerships between the Spanish and English Language Communities.

I started TED on the recommendation of a classmate and my teacher in a translation class at UTA, as well as the advice of Nuno from https://translationandinterpreting.com/volunteer-translators/, and it's been a rewarding experience and I've met many great people so far. I hope to continue to love and serve others to the glory of Jesus Christ through my time, relationships and volunteer work as a part of TED Translators.
