The TED story
I started subtitling talks on TED in 2009 as translation has always been my passion. At that time, the community of translators was small, and I felt like I was making a valuable contribution. I did both translations and reviews for about 3 years while we were still doing subtitling on dot.SUB, before the switch to Amara. When Google Translate went mainstream, an influx of self-proclaimed ,"translators" crowded the platform. Rather than simply reviewing their drafts, I frequently found myself starting from scratch and delivering a full re-translation. Over time, that constant friction left me disappointed, and my passion for translating and reviewing the talks eventually faded away.
Looking back, it was a rewarding experience that I enjoyed at the time.
