Michelle grew up in both England and Denmark and as a result grew up with a profound interest in cross-cultural identity. She gained her Bachelor of Arts from The University of Reading in archaeology and went on to do her Masters degree at University College London in Cultural Heritage Studies. She worked in museum education, events and interpretation at a wide variety of museums and historical houses before returning to university to complete her PhD in History.

An idea worth spreading

I believe that the representation of marginalised groups in the heritage industry, such as women, ethnic minorities and disabilities, is important, both in how we shape identity and how we shape the historical narrative of our nations. I feel that the misrepresentation or lack of representation of marginalised groups in museums contributes to how we shape our cultural beliefs.
