An idea worth spreading
The famous organizational psychologist, Amy Wrzesniewski shares her idea on seeing your work:
You can see your work as a job (focus on the financial aspect), career (about advancement: promotion, social status, etc.), or calling (fulfillment).
This sounded so vague the first time I read it. But then I read a book by another psychologist, Angela Duckworth in her book titled Grit where she gave an example below.
Three bricklayers are asked: “What are you doing?” The first says, “I am laying bricks.” The second says, “I am building a church.” And the third says, “I am building the house of God.” These are examples of what Wrzesniewski mentioned. The first bricklayer sees their work as a job, the second as a career, and the third as a calling.

The TED story
In 2022, I went on a short exchange program in Vancouver. I often walked around the city and one day, I stopped by the Canada Palace. That was the first time I saw a TED Conference banner and it hit me that the conference was right here.
For a moment I stood there, near the hotel where the conference took place. I was here, in Vancouver, and it was right at my door. Yet, I couldn't join the conference.
That was unfortunate but that's life. So, to heal my regret for being unable to join the conference, I decided to translate TED videos instead. I learned a lot and enjoyed every time I spent to do this.
