Yolanda Casas Fuentes

I am a freelance translator specialized in audiovisual and fashion. My working languages are English, French, Spanish and Galician (EN/FR>ES/GL). I've always enjoyed the cinema and researching about the fashion induystry and trends, so I decided to train in both disciplines and combine them with translation, my greatest professional passion. My wide knowledge in these fields has enabled me to collaborate in audiovisual translation projects for TV channels and well-known VOD platforms. Besides, I translate technical and training content for a Spanish multinational clothing company leading the global textile manufacturing industry.

Over the years, both as a student and at the beginning of my professional career, I have watched TED Talks on numerous occasions, whether to research topics for assignments or simply for leisure and to satisfy my curiosity. When I began working as a translator, I discovered the TED Translators community and I felt inspired to do my part by translating talks into Galician, one of my mother tongues. Galician is a co-official language in Spain, spoken in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula. Although, in theory, it has equal legal status in the region’s administration, education, and public life, this equality is not fully reflected in practice. Currently, the language has been dramatically losing speakers and it has very limited presence in key areas of everyday life, such as the audiovisual sector and scientific communication. For this reason, I became a TED subtitler for Galician, to help increase the availability of content in my language and to raise the profile of TED Talks through it. In 2025, I was honoured to receive a prize from the University of Santiago de Compostela for promoting the use of Galician in communication and scientific outreach through a TED Talk exposing the dangers of AI. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the TED community in this way, and I am proud to support the visibility and growth of my language through such a meaningful platform.
