Bio

I am a Spanish professional female who has always had a passion for languages, especially English. After completing a Degree in English Studies & Literature at The University of Valencia, I moved to the UK where I have lived for the past 25 years. I took a big detour from languages to work in the travel & hospitality sector. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 I was made redundant and I saw my current situation as an opportunity to focus once again on my language skills. Working in travel for many years has allowed me to gain specialist knowledge which I will be applying to my translation in future.

I'm passionate about

I am passionate about languages and other cultures. A good translation is so much more than transferring the words from the source text to a target text, it is also about understanding the target audience culture and fulfilling their expectations. It is about producing natural fluid texts that will be accepted in the target culture.

Areas of expertise

Audiovisual Translation (subtitles), Business & Tourism, Health & Fitness

The TED story

During my postgraduate course in translation with the Open University, we dedicated a module to audiovisual translation, and since then I have been really interested in subtitles. I really like the challenge of overcoming constraints of time and space typical of subtitles. I have learnt to condensate and rephrase content to a good standard and I cannot wait to dedicate some of my free time to this wonderful organisation
