Bridging Cultures Through Language: The Power of Translation in Global Understanding
In our increasingly interconnected world, effective communication across languages is essential for fostering empathy and collaboration. Translation is not just about converting words; it's about conveying meaning, emotions, and cultural nuances. By sharing stories and ideas from diverse perspectives, we can break down barriers and promote understanding among different cultures. This talk will explore how translation can empower communities, support humanitarian efforts, and enhance the impact of global movements, illustrating that every translated word contributes to a more inclusive world.
The TED story
Growing up in Colombia, I always felt the power of stories—how they connect us across borders and cultures. As a native Spanish speaker, I witnessed firsthand how language can both unite and divide us. This inspired me to pursue a career in translation, where I discovered my passion for helping voices be heard across different languages.
My journey took a significant turn when I began volunteering with organizations like TED and Translators Without Borders. Through translating TED talks, I realized that every translated word has the potential to spark inspiration and drive change. I learned not only about the importance of linguistic accuracy but also about cultural sensitivity and the emotional weight of words.
With each project, I strive to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and share stories that matter. I’m excited to be part of a global community dedicated to spreading ideas that can transform lives. My mission is to continue using my skills to amplify diverse voices and contribute to meaningful conversations that resonate worldwide.
