Since August 2009 I am coordinating the newly created Digital Culture Department, to formulate 'Digital Culture' directives, procedures and public policies for the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. Digital Culture is a concept used in Brazil to describe the context in which digital technologies and the networked environment impact the creation, production, reproduction, distribution, preservation, storage, access modes and economic chains of everything related to local (1) symbolic contents, and artistic and cultural (2) goods and (3) expressions. I joined the Brazilian Ministry of Culture in 2003 as the Strategic Information Manager, with the mission to bring elements of digital culture into the government, turning advanced web possibilities into public policy. I am also a Brazilian blogger. 'Ecologia Digital' [Digital Ecology], the blog, was started in 2002 and right from the beginning the goal was to translate into Portuguese concepts and ideas to promote meaningful participation and real digital activism. My blogging activity brought me to Berkman Center's Global Voices Online project, where I worked for 3 years as the Portuguese language editor. By this time I've launched a blog in English: Eco-Rama.net .
