Bio

Yuan Chen is an interactive designer whose practice has deep roots in literature and her diverse cultural background. She is always trying to find the most pragmatic and empathic solution to every problem. She believes that design in any format, from printed visual images to high-tech interactive devices, is a powerful tool to communicate across different cultures and languages. She originally started out her practice as a writer, and then moved on to become a graphic designer, and has recently switched to focus on interactive design. Yuan has an innate curiosity about the human condition, which led her to learn and discover as much about the humanities as possible. Her primary interests are in cognitive functions, evolutionary psychology, and history. Yuan was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied Visual Communication Design. Prior to this, she studied for 2 years in Shanghai, where she focused her coursework in Chinese Literature.

The TED story

I started to watch TED talks in 2011. That year, I moved to the US and studied there for 7 years. TED talks helped me broaden my view of the world, and helped me improve my English.
