I'm passionate about
...everyone having a voice. To let people know the we all have stories, experiences, rights, struggles, potentials, uniqueness and passion that we can shout to the world.
But, I hope everyone would more often remember that we also need to listen.
The TED story
I got two stories.
When I first came across TEDTalks and got into the translations of video subtitles to my native language, it was just for the sake of passing time. Also, I thought, Filipinos could understand English I did not really see the real sense of a Filipino subtitle, the English subtitle was enough. After I submitted my first translation (not reviewed yet), I ask my parents to watch the English video but halfway through it they lost interests because they could not understand the accents even with English subtitles. I thought, the video was interesting but if the message could get through because of language barrier, it would be useless.
Afterwards, a few months and a few video translations passed, I encountered a technical problem with my one of my submissions and I posted my concern on the Translator community. One French translator replied and then said, "you should also put subtitles for the claps and the laughters so anyone that can't hear still knows what's going on." Wow! That was it. I just got all the answers I was looking for.
In both stories, I then realized that these small acts can make huge impacts on someone who might want to learn further on certain matters or issues that we have right now. Even these small, simple function are very important.
