The TED story
Acting as a lecturer at the Chair of Translation Theory and Practice (Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology, Yerevan State University) I used TED Talks as a tool for language teaching. Later on I had the opportunity to volunteer as a translator at TED Open Translation Project putting Armenian subtitles to the preferred talk to share it on the Internet with a broader audience. I loved being a part of the TED community to learn more and also to contribute to providing opportunities to other people to learn. But the main "journey" began after getting acquainted with Kristine Sargsyan who is the Founder and Licensee of TEDxYerevan event and TED Talks Translations project in Armenia. More than 20 successful TEDx events have been organized under her supervision in Armenia. It is already 5 years my students and I actively participate in TEDx events. I am especially passionate and dedicated to providing learning opportunities for my students, as they are to become translators in the near future. Translating TED talks allows us to cross borders and view topics from different perspectives.... that’s how I got to TED.
