Kitaya Brady

Hello, my name is Kitaya and I was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan. When I was 17, I decided to move to the United States to improve my English and Seattle became my home town. I've lived here for the past 13 years and I am currently enrolled in the Translation and Interpretation institute at Bellevue College to obtain my American Translators Association Certification. For the past three decades my father has been working as a senior English editor at a translation company in Japan. Generously enough he offered to provide editing and proof reading service for my work to ensure absolutely no mistakes in the final product. My mother and my older sister are also bilingual, fluent in both Japanese and English, and they can also help edit and proof read the final draft to ensure translation accuracy. After living here for so long I have become more confident with English and I would like to start out by translating from Japanese to English and eventually the other way. I use Japanese when I have contact with my family, I use it a lot in class and sometimes I read Japanese magazines and articles. I can fluently speak, read and type Japanese on a computer, and I fluently speak, read and write English every day. The reason why I’m translating these TED videos is because there are too many TED talks spreading incredibly fascinating ideas only to be limited by one language. I am honored to be a part of the TED team tackling the language barrier and spreading ideas globally.
