Bio
I was born in Rome, Italy, on June 21, 1986. I received my B.A. in Physics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2008. In 2010 I received my M.S. degree in Physics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in collaboration with the Agenzia nazionale per le nuove tecnologie, l'energia e lo sviluppo economico sostenibile (ENEA) of Frascati, Italy, working on refractometry on thermonuclear plasmas. From November 2010 to February 2011 I had an internship at the Joint European Torus (JET), Calham, Oxford, UK, where I worked on data analysis and diagnostic modelization. I am currently doing my Ph.D in Plasma Physics started in June 2011 at the Centre de recherches en Physique des Plasmas (CRPP) of the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), in Lausanne, Switzerland.
I'm passionate about
Drawing, especially portraits. This is my main hobby during my spare time, even if it requires daylight, meaning that during winter I have only time to do it during he week-ends.
An idea worth spreading
I think crowd-funding is one of the new ideas that is worth to spread. Once, before finding someone willing to invest in your idea, you were supposed to build a prototype. Now it is reversed, it is enough a good idea and it is almost certain you would find someone willing to found it!
Areas of expertise
Physics, Plasma Physics
The TED story
I started to follow TED after a few suggestions from my PhD thesis supervisor about TED talks worth to be watched. Then I weekly began to look for interesting ones on my own. Since I wanted to show some of them to my parents too, who only speak Italian, I looked for Italian subtitles, and I though I should have contributed to write them, if I was capable of doing it.... that's how I started editing subtitles too!
Things you might not know
Drawing, again... It's the kind of activity you do on your own, and it is not very likely that people discover you like to do it!
