An idea worth spreading
I think we should devote an area of study to the design of countries. Most of man's design efforts and academic disciplines are limited to systems at the sub-country level. This is while we recognize that many of the problems we're having trouble with are due to a lack of integration at higher levels. A problem in health care is linked to a problem in the economy. A problem in security is linked to a problem of education, etc. So I think we should allocate more thought power to designing and engineering entire countries and even systems of countries.
The TED story
I have been a fan of TED ever since I discovered it in 2007. Since high speed internet was hard to come by in Iran, I had trouble downloading and watching TED Talks at first, but when I succeeded I was hooked on to them and still am. I just wish more people would watch them, specially in the developing world. I maintain a weblog that discusses TED Talks and other great online sources of knowledge in Persian (Farsi) for the Farsi-speaking world: http://ayandeyebashar.wordpress.com/
