Italian who fell in love with English and the connection it can spark between people

I casually discovered TED on Youtube while passing time on the internet (as a true Gen-Zer would ;-) ). I would watch gameplays, the first few youtubers doing challenges, vlogs, home renovations an many other random videos that would pop-up in my recommended. Somehow I kept finding myself watching videos in english and over time I learned it "passively". I often found myself wondering how someone could be able to understand and translate/speak multiple languages but I never really bothered to learn any different one than my native one (italian). Yet, I suddently realised I could understand and be able to translate english content for my family members, I could recognise dialects and understand different people from different countries. This opened so many possibilities to learn about different cultures, habits and traditions while also letting me learn new langueges (still a work in progress). Fast forward to 2019 after I finished high school I started looking for a job in my field of studies but I could't find it. Then there was a minor added obstacle: a global pandemic... In the meantime I discovered I could translate and transcribe for TED: the very same "buddy" that accompanied me through my english learning journey and so I did. I am very happy I could contribute to this amazing project and institution that TED has become and I hope that with my work I can help someone down the line!
