An idea worth spreading
Plato said "You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."
And i agree to that, but there's also so much more you can use to "discover" a person.
The TED story
I live in Romania, a country where (thankfully) there's no dubbing on films, shows, anything. Only subtitling. Yet, sometimes there's bad subtitling.
It's annoying when you see poorly translated subtitles on TV or on the internet, isn't it?
So I decided to see if I can do a better job, instead of just complaining about it
I'm not a trained translator, but i have a pretty good grasp of English and pretty good grammar in Romanian, so i gave it a try, and i liked it. I translated the subtitles for a couple of episodes of my favorite TV shows, then there was one TED talk i really, really wanted to work on.
That's when I found out i could join the translation team for TED talks. I liked TED. Plus, helping distribute the knowledge of TED is really cool. (And I did, eventually, get to translate that one special talk too. :) )
I translate the talks I like to watch, mostly, and i learn a lot from both the talks and the process of translating.
Things you might not know
Observing, looking at the world from a different angle. You get to see different things. I'm a good contemplator. :)
