Bio
I am a professor and research administrator at Utah State University. I have been on the faculty more than 20 years, and I love my profession. The excitement and energy of a college campus sustains my passion for learning, and I don't know of any other work environment where you get to learn from so many brilliant and disparate people -both young and old- virtually every day.
So how was I so fortunate to find myself in this role? Growing up, my family moved around quite a bit, so it seemed I never called anyplace home for more than 5 or 6 years. Those experiences helped shape my appreciation for people and cultures, and they also seeded my interest in the biological sciences. By the time I finished high school, I knew I wanted to be a scientist, and moved to Utah's Cache Valley to pursue a baccalaureate degree. That was 35 years ago. Along the way, I met my wife, discovered a passion for molecular microbiology and Food Science, and after graduation was recruited to continue on at Utah State in the Food Science doctoral program. By then, I had been captivated by the beauty of Northern Utah, and the peaceful, friendly environment of the community. Through hard work and good fortune, I was able to land the faculty position I enjoy today.
