Bio

Hi, friends. This is Tianai Song, a student at NYU. I intend to double major in Economics and Politics/Philosophy, with a minor in French. I call Qinhuangdao City, China my home. I consider myself as a world citizen. I enjoy traveling, reading, watching movies, swimming, running and exploring food.

I'm passionate about

My friend always says that I'm a passionate person and never gets tired! I enjoy traveling, exploring food and tourist sites, reading, watching movies, running, walking, swimming and basic everything in life! I enjoy helping others. I once volunteered in Kenya for a couple of weeks, teaching in a local primary school. I also volunteered as a Marathon ambassador at 2018 TCS NYC Marathon. I love meeting new people and taking challenges!

An idea worth spreading

In contemporary society, with the irreversible trend of globalization, our world becomes more diverse and also united. I believe it's importance not to pass judgements. We should respect people who're different from us and learn from them. We're supposed to bear witness and learn things from more than one perspective. We should seize the opportunities around us and not waste any moment of our life.

The TED story

I started to watch TED videos since I was very young. It has always been the sources of my inspiration and my tool for studying English. While watching TED videos at TED.com with English subtitles, I realize there are those Chinese who couldn't speak English don't have the opportunity to listen and understand those amazing ideas. I found that to some extent language barricades the transmission of interesting ideas expressed TED speeches. As a beneficiary of those TED videos, I hope more Chinese people can get inspired and educated by TED videos that are left untranslated. Therefore, I applied for the translator position at TED website and started to translate videos which primary language are English to Chinese. I'm also responsible for reviewing the translation works done by other translators to ensure our translation is precise.

Things you might not know

I'm a foodie! I enjoy exploring food at New York City in my spare time. And most importantly, take pictures of the food that I ate! I feel like food can not only satisfy my picky appetite, but also contain aesthetic value, which bring my joy. I'm also a musician. I started to play the piano since I was five, but gave it up when I had to move to another city for high school. I hope I can continue practicing playing the piano. As a piano player, I enjoy talking about music with people(Classic and Popular are both welcome haha).
