About Sofía

Bio

Hi! My name is Sofía Amaro I am a novel EN <>ES translator and Interpretation student from Argentina. These are some of the things I've done so far: • I have hosted various exchange students from Belgium, New Zeland and Brazil. I love getting to meet new people and acquiring knowledge about cultures different tomy own. I also offered them a home because I know how it is hard being in a whole different country away from your family and not knowing anyone, so I hoped to be their guide and someone they could count on. • I have volunteered for the "Foro Latinoamericano de Desarrollo Sostenible" held in my city. This event aims at informing people about the environmental issues we are facing and giving them tools to contribute with the planet. I found this event really interesting and I was able to gather more information on how I can do my bit to help reduce the main causes that are leading the Earth to destruction. • I have lived in the USA for four months. I had the privilege of working for Vail Resorts Inc. as a cashier, where I learned valuable skills such as team-working and customer communication. This was a rewarding experience and I had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people from different parts of the world. •At present I'm translating freelance while studying interpretation as stated in the beggining. I'm also a volunteer subtitles here at TED which I love because I get to learm about very diverse subjects while training my translation skills and collaborating with such a fascinating organization as TED.

I'm passionate about

My passion is dancing, it always helps me relax and forget about any trouble I may be having. Since childhood I've been very fond of reading. I love how books can absorbe you an take you to a whole different world created by your imagination. Recently I became vegan and discovered a whole new passion, cooking. I find amazing the huge range of possibilities that cooking gives you, and how you can mix a lot of very different flavors to create a new one.

An idea worth spreading

We have more control on the events that occur in our daily life than we are aware of.

The TED story

I'm new here at TED as a volunteer, but I have been watching TED videos for a while now. My English teacher introduced it to me when I was 15 and we used to watch videos in class to in touch with the language. When I grew older I realised there are TED videos for almost everything, so when I want to or have to learn about a particular topic I search for talks regarding that subject. Recently I found out I could do my bit for TED by translating some of their videos. So I decided to enter the translation program as it helps me as well to improve my translation and subtitling skills.

Things you might not know

I feel like there are a lot of people who sorround me that don't know about my passion for dancing. I don't dance professionally but I took classes for ten years when I was younger and it's in my blood. I feel complete when I express myself through dance.
