I am passionate about the transformative power of language and its ability to connect people across cultures. With over 20 years of experience as an interpreter and translator, I’ve witnessed firsthand how effective communication can break down barriers and foster understanding, particularly in diverse and challenging environments. One of my core passions lies in working with refugees and asylum seekers. I deeply believe that everyone deserves to be heard and understood, especially those navigating the complexities of a new country, legal systems, or mental health services. My work in this area has shown me how vital qualified interpreters are in providing the necessary support for these vulnerable populations. It’s not just about translating words; it’s about conveying emotions, cultural nuances, and personal stories that shape individual experiences. I advocate for the human touch in interpretation because AI cannot replace the empathy and connection that qualified interpreters bring to the table. I also find immense joy in teaching. My experience as a Spanish instructor at Coventry University allowed me to share my love for language with students while emphasizing the importance of cultural immersion. I am passionate about creating engaging and inclusive learning environments where students can connect deeply with the language they are studying. I believe that when learners understand the cultural context of a language, they become more effective communicators and are better equipped to navigate the complexities of real-world interactions. Furthermore, I am committed to empowering future interpreters through innovative training and education. I envision introducing new courses that focus on both the technical skills of interpretation and the soft skills necessary for effective communication. In addition to my work and teaching, I am passionate about localization and the nuances of adapting content for different cultures.
