Chih-Yuan Wang
Associate Professor
In 2015, a sudden bout of septicemia stripped Dr. Chih-Yuan Wang’s limps. Rather than an end, this began a decade-long experiment in existence and reconstruction. As a scholar of organizational change, Dr. Wang redefined the "self" after losing his physical connection to the world. Dr. Wang is the first educator in Taiwan to undergo bilateral hand transplantation. Through grueling rehabilitation, he transformed medical records into an observation of resilience. Returning to the lecture hall, he turned his "foreign hands" into a testament to transformation, earning the 2025 Exemplary Teacher Award, the highest honor in Taiwanese education. Dr. Wang has supported students through their final battles with cancer, using his own "frailty" to anchor another soul.
