"Flatten the curve!" Our community's motto for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic has shown what can be accomplished when we act with solidarity, determination and kindness. Now, let's come together and use the same spirit to #JoinTheCountdown. Let's change climate change! Over the month of July, TEDxCanberra has been inviting young Canberrans to pitch their ideas for solutions to the global climate crisis. Their challenge: to come up with compelling, viable ideas which can help create a safer, cleaner, fairer future for Canberra, Australia and the world. At this event, the young Canberrans with the most passion and energy will present their ideas live on the TEDxCanberra stage. Their pitches will be accompanied by our renowned mix of inspiring talks and performances by the best of Canberra's talent, along with opportunities for audience networking and Q&A with the presenters.

  • Bec Colvin

    Dr Bec Colvin is a social scientist and Lecturer with the Resources, Environment & Development Group at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy. Bec’s research interest is in how groups of people interact with each other - especially in settings of social and political conflict - with regard to climate and environmental issues. In particular, she studies the role of social-political identity in shaping these interactions. Much of this work has a focus on the dynamics and interplay of formalised processes for including citizens and stakeholders in decision-making and informal processes of interaction in the public sphere. At the Crawford School of Public Policy, Bec teaches courses on environmental communication, quantitative social research methods, climate policy research practice, and is Co-Convener of the Master of Climate Change.

    Paul Dal Broi is an Australian jazz pianist.

  • Sophia Hamblin Wang

    Aussie millennial Sophia Hamblin Wang is one of the few female executives leading the international development of carbon capture and utilisation. Her perspective on the potential for Australian led climate solutions continues to attract attention. In January 2020 she represented Australia at the World Economic Forum in Davos. With a passion for sustainability, Sophia has successfully built a portfolio career that illustrates her commitment to circular innovation: Chief Operating Officer of Mineral Carbonation International; team leader global health database Health Horizon; Canberra Ambassador for OzHarvest; member of the ACT Climate Change Council and the curator of the Canberra chapter of the Global Shapers Community (a WEF initiative).
