An era of economic, social and political collapse in 1980s combined with technological growth and optimism gave birth to the Synthwave. Marking the rise of pop culture, Synthwave influenced many life aspects around it including art, music, design and consumer technology. It made a reappearance in the early 2000s in the form of a music genre and through video games. Our event wants to celebrate the deeper meaning behind the Synthwave. Beyond its nature as a social and artistic movement, what it represents as a clash between the past and future, optimism and misery, is a motivation to keep moving forward and to keep creating even when everything around is collapsing. It is a nostalgia for a beautiful past, a celebration for our present day and a hope for a bright future. The speakers we have chosen are rebellious change-makers that don’t go by any book. With their inspiring ideas and stories, they will carry us away in an adventure that will make us celebrate all the beautiful and chaotic aspects of the live that surrounds us. With them, we are ready to ‘go back to the future.’

  • Abbas Sbeity

    Social Entrepreneur

    Abbas Sbeity is an architect, multi-disciplinary designer, and youth educator. For a few years, he has been designing and facilitating a variety of youth programs and community building projects with local and international organizations. He shares on stage some of the best lessons he has learned throughout his incredible journey.

  • Anthony Sargon

    Content Creator and Storyteller

    He is a lifelong comic book fan and collector, Anthony has done his best to spread comic book culture across Lebanon! Whether through his vintage comic business (The Comic Stash) or his online web series (Geek Authority), he’s always ready to break down the world of comics and pop culture. Anthony is also an experienced storyteller and content creator, having produced popular shows for both television and the web.

    Body Language Master

    Jonathan Choufany is a body language master and lie detection, expert. His upbringing motivated him to dive into this domain. He holds many workshops and works with individuals and organizations to create better means of communication and smoother relationships between people.

    Leila Saad is an English Literature graduate, an inspiring teacher, and a young poet.

  • Maryam Ghanem

    Architect and Visual Artist

    Maryam is an architect and visual artist. She has been engaged in art therapy projects with adolescents all across Lebanon, hoping to promote social cohesion.

    Maya Terro is a social, environmental and food activist and a rebel from the day she was born.

    Rana is an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapist. In her own way, she sheds light on this subject matter in the Lebanese society and how should the local community conceive individuals who look like us but act differently due to a genetic or acquired condition.

    Creative Consultant and Youtuber

    Rawad Habib is a Youtuber, a content creator, and a creative consultant. He heavily focuses on his work on delivering powerful messages to his audience whether on or off the camera. He encourages us through his talk on making the best out of the platforms we have at our fingertips in a world where anything we post might go viral.
