Microinsurance has given small-scale farmers in Africa a powerful tool to survive unpredictable weather, with 185,000 farmers insured against drought for just two Euros each. Unlike traditional insurance, this approach uses satellite data to monitor rainfall, making payouts possible even in remote areas. When a drought devastated crops in western Kenya, early compensation allowed thousands to replant and harvest in the same season.
