Cities like Lagos promise opportunity, but that promise often comes at the expense of the vulnerable. Over 300,000 people in more than 40 waterfront communities have been violently evicted to make space for luxury developments like Periwinkle Estate. These forced removals ignore the human ingenuity and resilience found in so-called slums, where residents create their own solutions amid neglect. True progress means cities must value every resident, not just those who can afford the view.
