In the 1930s, zookeepers in Chicago accidentally paired two male pandas, fueling the myth of their reproductive incompetence. Captive breeding is plagued by misidentification, limited mating opportunities, and unnatural environments. Wild pandas display vibrant mating rituals, often having sex over 40 times in a single afternoon, yet factors like short ovulation and fetal reabsorption naturally regulate their population.
