Trauma is common, but for millions, its effects linger as nightmares, flashbacks, and relentless negative thoughts. PTSD stems from a biological malfunction in the brain's response to danger, not from weakness. Everyday triggers like a smell or sound can provoke overwhelming panic and helplessness, even long after the original trauma. While some risk factors make PTSD more likely, recovery is possible with support, therapy, and self-care.
