Lawrence Sumulong

Lawrence Sumulong (b. 1987) is a Filipino American Photographer based in New York City with his partner, Sarah, and their two beloved cats, Oliver and Miko. He is represented by INSTITUTE in Los Angeles and London. While contending with his father's battle with cancer and eventual passing, he got his start under the mentorship of Magnum Photos photographer, David Alan Harvey, in 2008. Dead to Rights (2007-2018) is his first significant body of work on his second home: Manila, the Philippines. The series was profiled in The New York Times. Invited by curator Clara Kim of the Tate Modern, his series Urban Legend showed recently at Asia's historic Gwangju Biennale in 2018. He has forthcoming photographic work in the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service's 10 venue, national tour: Men of Change.
